The Coalition to Save Local Media issued the following statement on the Chairman of Sinclair Broadcast Group’s statement today on recent FCC actions and the proposed acquisition of Tribune Media:
“Weakened media consolidation rules do not level the playing field but pave an easier path for the Sinclair-Tribune mega-merger that is not in the public interest. As media organizations, distributors, independent networks, public interest groups, and other allies, we know these actions and this proposed merger will stifle local and independent media voices and hurt consumers.
“Sinclair and Tribune’s arrogance throughout this process should raise serious flags with the FCC, Department of Justice, and other parties investigating this proposed merger. This merger should be denied.”
